Terrarium Building Instructions

Examples of terrariums and plant care instructions are located at end of page

Step 1: Painting Miniatures (If applicable)

  • Set up your workstation by laying down protective layer. Plate, mat, paper etc
  • Layout paintbrush, water cup, and a paper towel.
  • Gather the paints of your choosing. Any acrylic will work
  • Shake your paints well before use.
Tips:
  • Apply two thin coats, letting each layer dry.
  • Mix paints on a separate palette for custom colors.
  • Dry your brush thoroughly before applying paint.

Step 2: Planting Succulents & Prepping Air Plants (If applicable)

  • Gently remove mesh around succulents.
  • Empty soil into planter, then dig small holes and plant succulents
  • Stabilize the succulents by wetting the soil around the plant's base and gently tamp and build up soil for support
  • Gently tamp remaining soil to flatten for Step 3
  • Air Plants should be placed atop sand or rocks (see Step 3), not planted directly into soil

Step 3: Building Your Terrarium

        1. Add sand & rocks using the spoon and cup
Tips:
  • Shake the provided spoon gently for even coverage.
  • Use a paintbrush to smooth sand in tight spots.

    2. Decorate with provided accessories. (shells, moss, rocks, animal figurines)
  • Add painted miniatures once dry
  • Place the air plant on top of sand or rocks—do not plant it in soil
Tips:
  • Less is more—negative space can highlight your plants.
  • Leave room for painted miniatures.
Voila! See below for examples & care instructions

Plant Care

Light Requirements
  • Succulents and air plants prefer indirect sun for ~6 hours. Avoid direct sunlight
  • Place 6-10 inches from a South or East-facing window for best results.
Watering
  • Air plants: Mist thoroughly or dunk in water every 2-3 weeks.
  • Succulents: Water 1/2 cup every 2-3 weeks, aiming for the base.
Tips:
  • Less is more—succulents store water in their leaves.
  • To check if watering is needed:
    • Squeeze a leaf—if firm, no water needed; if squishy, time to water.
    • Insert a toothpick into the soil—if wet, wait a few days; if dry, water.
  • Use a plant tracking app for reminders and care tips.
